The Spirit of Excellence

How good are you at what you do? I recently read an article by, Pat Riley, coach of the Miami Heat, in which he says, "You don’t want to merely be the best of the best. You want to be considered the only one who does what you do." It is no longer good enough to meet the standards. It’s time to exceed the standards and, in the process, set new ones. You must reach for a level of excellence where your name will become synonymous with what you do. When asked, "What is the safest car in the world?" Most people respond by saying, "Volvo." Think about that. Out of all the cars they could have said, they said Volvo. That’s what I mean by standard-setting excellence. There is no job unworthy of your best effort. Excellence is a way of living, thinking, and doing. When the product or service you provide is mentioned, who’s name will the customer say?
